These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and the team behind Lumi ("Lumi", "we", "us"). They apply to the Lumi mobile app, the website at applumi.online and everything we offer through them (together, the "Service").
Please read them. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Lumi.
1. What Lumi is, and what it is not
Lumi is a self-help companion for the time after a breakup. It offers a No Contact tracker, a journal, a vault for unsent messages, guided tasks, progress charts and a conversational Coach.
Lumi is not therapy, counselling, medical advice or an emergency service. It does not diagnose or treat any condition, and it does not replace a doctor, a therapist or the people in your life. Do not delay or ignore professional advice because of something in Lumi.
If you might hurt yourself or someone else, or you are in danger, contact your local emergency number immediately. You can find a free helpline in your country at findahelpline.com.
2. Who can use Lumi
You must be at least 18 years old, and able to enter into a binding agreement where you live. Lumi is not meant for children and we do not knowingly collect their data.
You are responsible for the account you create. Give us accurate information, keep your login private and tell us if you think someone else has access.
3. The Coach and other generated content
The Coach and other written reflections in Lumi are produced by a trained large language model (LLM), not by a person. When you chat with the Coach, your messages are processed by that model and by service providers that help us run it, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Generated content can be incomplete, out of date or simply wrong. It is general support, not advice written for your circumstances. Use your own judgement and do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions.
Lumi checks messages for signs of crisis. If we think you may be at risk, the Coach may reply with care and local support options instead of a normal answer. These checks are automated and are not perfect, and Lumi does not monitor your account and cannot contact emergency services for you.
We set fair limits on how many Coach messages you can send in a day and how quickly. The limits may differ between free use and Lumi+.
4. Your content
You own what you write, record and upload to Lumi, such as journal entries, unsent messages, photos, voice notes and Coach messages ("Your Content").
You give us a limited licence to host, store, process and display Your Content only so we can run Lumi for you. That includes sending your messages to the language model so the Coach can reply, and storing your media in private storage. We do not use Your Content to advertise to you, and we do not sell it.
You are responsible for Your Content. Only upload things you have the right to use. Do not upload anything illegal, and do not upload sexual or intimate images of any person, or of anyone under 18, in any circumstances.
Photos used in Burn the Memories stay on your phone and are not uploaded to us.
5. Acceptable use
Lumi exists to help you move on, not to reach, track or harm anyone. You agree not to:
- use Lumi to contact, harass, stalk, threaten, monitor or get revenge on another person, or to ask the Coach to help you do so;
- use Lumi to break the law or to infringe anyone's rights;
- try to get around limits, security or the safety checks, or to use the Coach to produce harmful content;
- copy, scrape, reverse engineer or interfere with the Service, except where the law allows it;
- share your account, or sell or resell access to Lumi or Lumi+ other than through the gift feature.
We may refuse requests, remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules or puts someone at risk. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why.
6. Lumi+ subscriptions
Lumi is free to download. Some features need Lumi+, an optional paid subscription. What is included, the price and the length of each plan are shown in the app before you buy. Prices can differ by country and include taxes where they apply.
Payment. Subscriptions are bought through your Apple account. Payment is charged to your Apple account when you confirm the purchase.
Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same length and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
Free trials and introductory offers. If a trial or introductory price is offered, the app tells you its length and what you will be charged afterwards. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it becomes a paid subscription. If you buy while a trial is running, the unused part of the trial may end.
Managing and cancelling. You can manage or cancel a subscription any time in your Apple account settings (Settings, then Apple Account, then Subscriptions). Deleting the app or your Lumi account does not cancel it. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep Lumi+ until the end of the period you already paid for.
Refunds. Payments and refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, under Apple's own rules. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds for purchases made through Apple. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have by law, including a right to withdraw within a legal cooling-off period where one applies.
Price changes. We may change prices or plans. If a price rises, Apple will tell you and, where the law requires, ask for your consent before the new price applies to you. If you do not agree, you can cancel before it takes effect.
Changes to Lumi+. We may add, change or remove features of Lumi+. If we remove something you paid for in a way that materially lowers its value, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel.
7. Gifting Lumi+
You can buy a gift of Lumi+ for another person. This section explains how gifts work.
What a gift is. A gift is a one-time purchase of a fixed period of Lumi+ access: one week (7 days), one month (31 days) or one year (365 days). It is not a subscription. It does not renew and it never starts billing for the person who receives it.
Paying. You pay through your Apple account when you buy the gift. After we confirm the purchase, the app gives you a private gift link and a code that look like applumi.online/redeem followed by eight characters. You can share the link in any way you like and add an optional note of up to 280 characters.
Receiving. The person you send it to opens the link, signs in or creates a Lumi account (they must also be 18 or older) and taps Accept. Their Lumi+ access starts when they accept, and not when you buy. If they already have Lumi+, the gift period is added after their current access ends.
One link, one person. A gift can be accepted once. Whoever accepts it first receives it, so please share the link only with the person it is meant for and keep it out of public places. We cannot cancel or move a gift after it has been accepted. If you lose the link before it is accepted, tell us, and where we can verify that you made the purchase we will try to help.
Your own gifts. You cannot accept a gift you bought. A gift cannot be exchanged, transferred after it has been accepted, redeemed for cash or used to pay for another plan.
What the recipient sees. Before accepting, the recipient can see your first name (taken from your profile) and your note, if you wrote one. They do not see your email address or any other information about you. You do not see who accepted the gift. We keep a record of whether and when a gift was accepted, and by which account, to prevent misuse and to provide support.
Link validity. A gift link does not expire while it is unaccepted, but we may disable links we reasonably believe were obtained by fraud, such as with a stolen payment method.
Refunds. Gifts are paid for through Apple, so refunds are decided by Apple. As required by Apple's rules, a refund can only go to the person who bought the gift, and gifts cannot be exchanged. If a gift has been accepted and then refunded, we may end the access it granted.
If something goes wrong. If you paid for a gift but did not receive a working link, open the gift screen again in the app so the link can be created, or contact us at support@applumi.online with your Apple receipt. We will fix it or help you get a refund from Apple.
8. Our rights in Lumi
Lumi, including its name, logo, designs, illustrations, text, software and content such as the 30-day Journey, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by law. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on Apple devices that you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these Terms.
If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
9. Third-party services
Lumi works with third parties, such as Apple (the App Store and Sign in with Apple), Google (sign in), and providers of hosting, subscription management, notifications and language models. Their own terms and policies apply to what they do. We are not responsible for services we do not control.
10. Availability and changes
We work to keep Lumi running and secure, but we do not promise it will always be available, error-free or free from interruptions. We may update, change or retire parts of the Service. We may update these Terms. If a change is important, we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies. If you keep using Lumi after a change takes effect, you accept it. If you do not, you can stop using Lumi and delete your account.
11. Ending your use
You can stop using Lumi any time and delete your account in the app (Profile, Privacy and security, Delete account). More detail is on our account deletion page. Deleting your account removes your data as described in the Privacy Policy. It does not cancel an App Store subscription: do that in your Apple account settings.
We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety. If we end your paid access without a fault of yours, we will help you get a refund for the unused time through Apple.
12. Disclaimers
Lumi is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we do not give any warranty about it, including that it will meet your needs, that results will be achieved or that content from the Coach is accurate. Everyone heals differently, and we cannot promise any particular outcome.
Nothing in these Terms removes any warranty or right that the law gives you as a consumer and that cannot be excluded.
13. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profits, loss of data or any harm that results from relying on content from the Coach. Our total liability to you for any claim about the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us through the App Store in the 12 months before the claim and 50 US dollars.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that the law does not allow us to limit.
14. Apple terms
If you use Lumi on an Apple device, the following also applies:
- These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Lumi or its content.
- Our licence to you is limited to use on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by the App Store Terms of Service.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for maintenance and support. Apple has no duty to provide any.
- If Lumi fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app (if any). Apple has no other warranty duty for Lumi. We, not Apple, are responsible for any claim about Lumi, such as product liability, a failure to meet a legal requirement, or a consumer protection claim.
- If a third party claims that Lumi infringes its intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for that claim.
- You confirm that you are not in a country under a US government embargo or on a US government list of restricted parties, and that you will follow the third-party terms that apply when you use Lumi.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you once you accept them.
- Questions, complaints and claims about Lumi can be sent to support@applumi.online.
15. Law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the law of the place where the team behind Lumi is established, without regard to conflict of law rules. This does not take away the mandatory consumer protection law of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts of that country if the law lets you.
Please contact us first at support@applumi.online and give us a chance to fix the problem. Most issues can be solved this way.
16. General
If part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours as part of a merger, sale or reorganisation, and we will make sure your data keeps the protection in the Privacy Policy. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Lumi.
